one by one

Well the past few weeks the night clubs been too busying racin' for this bloggin'. But I figure there should be an update for our few fans. Since the road warrior race, we've been following the wvmba series and made it to an ultra race down near enemy lines, or harrisonburg. Charlie was sighted but was on neutral ground for the massanutten race I guess. We were a little curious about the woman offering the night before, thinking she was tryin' to sabotage us for keeping us up all night.

The next weekend was one of the biggest races of theyear, 24 hours of big bear. Our plan from the start was to try and race 5 men expert. And the massanutten results were the tryouts for the order. The night before lairds volunteers didn't realize that there wasn't such a category. So while most of the team was gettin' their grub from little sandy, laird was on a man hunt for a night clubber. We've gotten used to that and eventually sorted things out and raced just for fun.

LB & Christophe doin' their pre-race ritual of bike maintenance

overall the course was pretty sweet, and not nearly as mucky as last year. And there weren't any mechanicals the whole time but then again, we all are on singlespeeds. We also had a final duke it out at the very end for the 2nd spot. But juan was able to hold on to our position and we finished 2nd overall.

This past weekend was the bike festival at appy classic. Me and LB were the only ones to do the 2 saturday races 'cause of several issues with the other clubbers.Benji havin' his elbow all chewed up with deep pain but he still managed to witness the lefty flip. But this wasn't no ordinary lefty flip, it was the best one I've ever seen and I've seen alot myself

Sunday was the XC and it was ex officio wiedpoor's first race back from his collarbone injury. Seems like he's feelin' better which is good 'cause it'll be a long day at the wayne coming up.

Weekend at Baristas

Night Club charter member L.B. hosted the 2nd round of the WV Road Series this past weekend from his cafe and pub in New Martinsville. It was the 1st trip there for Morgan and myself. We arrived just in time for the time trial on Saturday. I had just been cleared to ride since having ankle fusion surgery in early February. My plan was to get on Morgan's wheel and sit on him as long as I could. I held on for about a mile. Morgan rode the 9+ mile course in 20 minutes flat. Lunch followed at the Barista Cafe. We spent the afternoon with L.B. (everyone in New Martinsville knows him as Aron) working on Morgan's mountain bike and marking the course for the Sunday road race. Dinner at the pub was pizza from the Barista's woodburning oven. I got the 1st piece and also the last piece.

The road race on Sunday had 36 racers, whom started in one pack. The couse started with a ten mile flat run up the Ohio River before turning 90 degrees left and tackling the 1st and longest of many climbs, before the finish after 45 total miles. After about 4 miles of racing, the Cat. 1-3 racers were setting a corfortable pace of 21-22 mph. At that point, I did some mental calculations on my odds of being the race leader at any time during a Cat. 1-3 road race. I decided this would likely be my last chance ever. I immediately hit the front and burried myself. I lasted about 5 miles before drifting through the entire pack and out the back. When the pack made the 90 degree left turn up the climb, I added another 90 to my turn and headed back to the cafe. Johnny and Morgan represented the Night Club, finishing 2nd and 4th respectively in the Cat. 1-3 race. An excellent showing for our short-handed team.

Johnny, his other half, & Morgan in the pub post-race.

Morgan's senior prom is next weekend, so we will return for the Tour de Lake.

Racin' then n' Racin' soon.

From the cool mountains of Big Bear paradisio to the dreaded valley walls of the Ohio river, the resident nightclubbin', Little Bastard has gone from racin' to the dreaded promotin' o' races. Sunday's jaunt through bear country ended up pretty well with wvnc claiming 3 o' the top 5 spots in ye olde syngle speede category, with Benji taking the win. There were times of worry, as when many of us were passed by a rigid rider, my thoughts turned to the ominous "Oh fuck, it's too early to be rigided" but no worries as even he soon realized that riding a rigid bike at big bear is a foolish concept, best left to sailor's and wearers of their little sister's pants. Of course you must realize that they's love in racin' single speeds, they's happiness, they's also sorrow, hatred and madness it too.

I believe the liberal ingestion of Maker's Mark, beer and pringles made for the good start of this racing year, it's as if nothing's changed. The collective tolerance's for our vices seemes to have withstood the ragged onslaught of winter, it may also be noted that nice weather was a welcome change to the beginning of the racin' season although it is still too early to relax the anal sphincter and think that there won't be at least one race where my nuts may be frozen to the saddle, thus having to employ the plastic spatula/ warm water removal technique.

Coming this weekend to a race course that may be near you, but probably not, the Road Warrior Challenge "Welcome to Thunderdome, Bitches..." Saturday kicks off the festivities at 10 am with the team time trial: 3 men enter, 1 team leaves. Sunday welcomes back racing in Monroe County, Ohio with the 45 mile road race rolling through the hills and valley's next to the Ohio River, good luck fuckers! In a move that normally isn't my way, I shall be behind the registration desk and the wheel of the pace car as I try my hand at this race promoter buisness.

I belive Homer Simpson said it best, "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer."

ESADCS

I would play with this thing more if I knew what I were doing but I just can't figure it out. Don't worry, that's what she said.

She also said the past few weeks has been pretty good. We've all been heading up to Benji's for the bi-weekly monster ride. Last week we had a few ex officio's there as well. Gravey Davey and Mark Schooley rode with us on Wednesday. We went on a 3.5 hour ride around Big Bear through the new trail (Nutbuster/One Nut/Lance - pending), up the downhill, and back through the canaan trail. After a few of those, some Quebec rides, and a couple of training camps in some unknown locations, I think we're just about ready for the racing to start.

She went on saying that a couple of the night clubbers were headed down for another training camp down in florida.  While we have another in the mormon state. But Christophe and I plan on getting various intervals in between this wednesday and monday. He's already got a headstart on me, being down there for a couple of days now.  And from what I hear, there are some girls down there that are goin wild for the next couple of weeks. oh my word, I must have raised too much hell because I think I might be goin to heaven.

So you're pretty much up to date with that there. But we still don't know the whereabouts of the little one. lb?

Bears OH MY!

The WV Night Club took to the hills yesterday for some important arctic training and survival skills practice. We headed out on the single speeds/ brush chippers/ all terrain vehicles with no known destination or time frame. We ended up on a trail that took us deep into Charlie territory. We navigated some crazy rock gardens and a few hike-a-bikes before coming to a sweet rock drop/ downhill. 3 Night club members made it down the embankment drop without a hitch. Junior member, little Organ was not so lucky. He suffered from a flat tire on the drop but managed to ride it out and not wreak. I will say that his new industrial strength trail bomber hasn't arrived yet and he was forced to ride on his city path single speed, which could have been the reason for the flat tire. Its kinda like takin' an old 85 ford 250 with BFG's off road or a Geo metro...3 members was a riddin' in the 250...Organ was in the metro. Hopefully he will be gettin' his 250 soon from that shop down in shine country...Foreigner?
Anyhow, we stopped at check point 2 for a quick flat change before continuing on. After a few miles up the trail, we realized we were in trouble:

It seemed like no matter where we went, we were following bear tracks and it looked like they kept getting fresher the further we went. After hearing some rustlin in the bush, we decided that it was best to alter our route and high tail it out of there...I think we were being set up for an ambush...Don't worry Mr. Bear, we won't be back. We ended up having a pretty solid ride and nobody lost their derailleur in the thicket. Have I mentioned how much single speeds rule! I wonder what the Night Club has in store for this weekend? Bears? Beer? Babes? Stay tuned to find out!

Chris Scott bad, Night Club good

My dad and I just got back from The Mormon State and I had a few other things to say/show that were more par on for the Night Club blog. But like I said, I met up with Mike Cordaro, another ex officio of the night club. I called him up and told him to pick a place for us all to go out to eat. Well sir, that's just say he didn't pick no ordinary place to eat either.

Bombay House. That's where we ate. Some Indian restaurant, and not the ingines over near in these parts but the other India on the other side of the world. They were a far ways from home.  Anywho, the food actually was pretty good. It was a lot like chinese. No dog, atleast not that I saw, but they brought out a bunch of rice and everything in a bowl there like a chinese place.  Ronoid, who owns one of the night clubs soon to be frequent pit stops during training routes, said Mike was one of the most weird, funny, cool guy to hang around with. He must of never met that crazy LB. His name was little bastard before he could even talk. Be sure you see him before he starts drinking too much though, because you might not recognize him. He tends to keep one eye closed when he's already had a few swigs of maker's mark.

Well we went out there to go skiing, and we had to make a few trips to the hot tub after a hard days ride. Little IKE had one of them casts on and wanted me to draw a little bit on it.

He's bad for your health

Charlie's in the bush gettin stronger!

Team WV Night Club has been working hard these past few weeks. So far we have had several team training sessions to focus on our team goals for this season. Well, just last week we took a trip up there to Pawnie's camper to work on our alcohol intervals. Stinky was hanging out up there to, and man can he throw back some shine... Anyhow, I think I pulled through for 6 reps of 15 second chugs, the other were right around that mark. Big M little Organ was able to down 5 bottles of GU 2o. Captain IKE kept to himself the whole time. He sat in the corner of the camper and wore some pretty costly lookin' sunglass that whole time...I think they were womens glasses, but we won't tell him. I think we still have some more work to do before the first race, but we are feeling pretty good.

(Pawnie's camper)

Just last weekend we made it out on our bikes for a pretty cool ride. It was kinda cold, so we just put on our team issue carhartt overhauls and flannel jackets, which more than kept us warm. You can't really where all that sissy spandex up here in the mountains, the locals would either burn ya at the stake, or take you for target practice. One feller stopped us and asked us: 'why are yuns a riddin them kid bikes with no motor?' Gunnar said: ' well sir, im just on my way home from work and I ain't lookin' for no trouble.' I think he thought Gunner was someone from down in the big lights cause he told him to 'just go on and get outta the holler!' We finally settled things down and that feller ended up bein pretty nice and offered us a couple miller beers for our ride home, which made the journey over that mountain just a little bit easier.
On another note, two of our team members have began their high intensity altitude training. Team commentator, senior member, and Harrisonburg's most hated, L.B., has made the journey to the mountains of California where he hopes to raise his alcohol tolerance to super human levels for this year. I don't think he plans on sleeping much...you should really see this guy do a keg stand...or talk on the megaphone (equally as impressive). Jr. member big M is in an undisclosed location out west tuning up his arctic survival skills and honing in on his ski bunny/single biker chick identification and attraction skills. Welp, I think that's about all for today. I gotta go do some welding in the shop on my tractor bucket...
